Mary Vieve Reed, 84, of Mason, died Monday, May 19, 2003, in Junction. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, at 2 p.m., in the Leatherwood Memorial Chapel in Brady with interment at Lohn Cemetery, in Lohn. Brother Denny Ray Jackson officated. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Mary was born on April 14, 1919, in Red Oak to Worth Rockett Smith and Angeline Sophronia Knotts Smith. She married John Richard Bailey in Menard, and later married Donald Reed in Llano in 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason and lived in Mason for almost 40 years. Mary was a homemaker and loved camping, music, reading and painting.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, John Richard Bailey in 1984 and Donald Reed in 1989, one daughter, Mary Alice Bailey, two brothers, Harley B Smith and Marion Worth Smith and one sister, Edith Lynell Everett.
She is survived by two sons, Johnnie Lorance "Hoby" Bailey and wife, Ivy Lee of Mason and Richard Earl Bailey of Junction; two daughters, Angela Arlene Awtrey and husband, Robert Joe, of Junction and Carolyn Bernice Airheart and husband, Gordon Gail, of Mason; one brother, Vernon Lorance Smith and wife, Mary, of Gorman; two sisters, Bernice Ruth Ellis and Wanda Lee Degal, both of Brady. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
